Professional Experience

Patent Law

• Many years of providing extensive legal counsel and representation for clients in the fields of medical technology, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceuticals, organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetic and bio engineering, life sciences as well as textile technology.
• Developing strategies for protecting industrial property rights.
• Drafting patent applications and handling related procedures up to grant and when necessary opposition proceedings before the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA) as well as at the European Patent Office (EPO) and at national patent offices abroad.
• Conducting patent litigation proceedings in and out of court, including infringement and nullity proceedings in Germany and abroad, when necessary together with colleagues from our international network of attorneys.
• Preparing opinions on the validity or infringement of patent rights.
• Conducting and evaluating freedom-to-operate searches.

Trademark Law

• Years of experience in providing extensive legal counsel and representation for clients on trademark issues from a variety of economic areas, including strategic development and support of national and international trademark portfolios.
• Handling registration procedures, including opposition proceedings at the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA), the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the WIPO and national trade mark offices. 
• Conducting of trade mark litigation proceedings in and out of court, including infringement and cancellation proceedings, in Germany and abroad, when necessary together with colleagues from our international network of attorneys. 
• Conducting and evaluating trade mark searches.
• Preparing opinions on the validity or infringement of trade mark rights.

Design Law

• Providing legal counsel and representation for clients from different economic areas.
• Handling registration procedures, including cancellation proceedings at the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA), the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the WIPO and national offices.
• Conducting of design litigation proceedings in and out of court, including infringement proceedings, in Germany and abroad, when necessary together with colleagues from our international network of attorneys.
• Preparing opinions in conjunction with design rights or design infringements.

Professional Involvement

Dr. Christoph Gerspacher has been working for many years in training patent attorney candidates in Baden-Württemberg.
